If you move objects from the body of a document to the Dataset Objects panel, or if you use a view filter or create a derived metric, you have created a subset report. The report before you made these kinds of modifications is referred to as the base report.
Base and subset reports can be summarized as follows:
Base report: The original report before you make any kind of modifications to it.
Subset report: A modified version of a base report. These modifications include the following:
Moving objects from the grid of a report to the Report Objects.
The view filter on the report is ignored when the report is used in the document.
Derived metrics in the report are not displayed in the Dataset Objects panel and cannot be used in the document.
All objects in the base report, including objects on the grid or moved from the grid to Report Objects are displayed in the Dataset Objects panel, available for use in the document.
If you use a subset report as a dataset report, all of the information on the base report is available in the document. All the objects from the report, whether they are displayed on the grid or are only available on the Report Objects panel, are displayed in the Dataset Objects panel. The view filter is ignored, so the data from the base report is used in the document.
Note: You can create view filters in a Grid/Graph that are local to the document. This means that the view filters do not affect the report results, only the Grid/Graph displayed on the document. For more information, see Creating, editing, and deleting view filters in Grid/Graphs in documents.
However, when you create a Grid/Graph control from a subset report, the subset report can be used. To do this, select the section to add the report to, right-click the dataset name in Dataset Objects, and select Add to Section with Formatting. This places all of the objects from the subset report on the grid and copies the formatting of the dataset report. The view filter of the report is still ignored. This action copies the subset report; it does not link to it. This means that any changes you make to the subset report will not be propagated to the grid in the document.
Note: You can link a Grid/Graph to its dataset report, by adding the Grid/Graph as a shortcut. For details and instructions, see Linking a Grid/Graph to the source report: Shortcuts.
For more information on subset reports, see View filters and Derived metrics.
Open a document in Design or Editable Mode.
Select the section to add the report to.
Right-click the dataset name in the
Dataset Objects panel and select Add
to Section with Formatting. All the objects and formatting from
the subset report, excluding the view filter and derived metrics, are
placed on the grid.
Note: This does not create a link to the subset report.
This means that any changes you make to the subset report are not carried
over to the grid in the document.
