About grouping and sorting data in a document

Document designers can specify how the data in a document are sorted, and how it is organized, or grouped, for document analysts.

Grouping the data in a document sets up a type of hierarchy within the document, and an inherent or implied sort order for the data in the document. A document's data is sorted according to its groupings; however, you can also control how it is sorted beyond that. See the grouping section of a document in the image below.

You can also use page-by to interactively display groups on separate pages in Interactive Mode and the exported PDF version of the document. It allows a user to dynamically select elements of a grouping field as criteria for analysis.
