Viewing specific rows and columns: Filter on Selections

You can determine which rows and columns of data are displayed or hidden on a report. For example, if a report has more rows of information than you wish to view, you can specify which rows to hide.

Note: This setting will not affect how the report data is calculated, as the hidden rows and columns are still part of the reports definition and therefore are part of the data calculations. If you own MicroStrategy OLAP Services, any hidden rows and columns are still visible.

Warning: If you use Filter on Selections on an attribute that includes derived elements, a new derived element and view filter qualifications are created to support the filtering action. This restricts the data that is available on the report. If after taking this action you want to display all information available on the report, you must clear the view filter as well as remove the derived elements defined for the attribute.

To display or hide rows and columns

  1. Click the name of a report to execute it.

  2. Press and hold CTRL and click to select individual rows and columns to keep on the report. Rows and columns you do not select will be removed from the report.

  3. From the Data menu, select Filter on Selections. The report is displayed with only the rows and columns you selected. If no rows or columns are selected, the option is greyed out.
