Creating a filter based on a rank range of metric values

You can create a filter that restricts report results based on a rank range of metric values for a given report. This can allow you to view analysis such as the bottom 20 products in terms of profit margin. Further analysis can be explored on this rank range of products to determine how to increase profit margins for these products, or decide which products should be discontinued.

The steps below show you how to create a filter with a rank metric qualification.

Prerequisites

To create a filter with a rank metric qualification

  1. Log into a project in MicroStrategy Web.

  2. Run the report in Grid View.

  3. Right-click a metric on the report and select Filter On.

  4. Select Top N. The Filter On Metric dialog box opens.

  5. Select an operator from the drop-down list that describes how you want to filter data, such as Highest or Lowest.

  6. Type the value for the rank number you want to restrict data to. This is the value that indicates the number of attributes you want to display.

  7. Click OK.
