Searching by object type, creation date, and other criteria: Advanced search

It is often useful to search for an object using criteria such as the date the object was created or modified, the owner of the object, and what type of object it is. This type of search is called an Advanced search.

Objects you can search for include:

To search on object type, creation date, folder location, and other criteria

  1. Type the name of the report, document, filter, prompt, or other object in the Search field Search field icon at the top of the page.

  2. Click the Submit Search icon Submit Search icon. The results of the search are displayed.

  3. Click the Advanced link on the right. The Advanced Search page is displayed.

    : To return to a simple search, click Simple at the right of the Search field.

  4. To search for an object by name, type the name in the Search For field. For tips to search for objects effectively, as well as information on using wildcards to search, see Using efficient search syntax.

  5. You can specify how the text in the Search For field is used to search for objects. For example, if you type east in the Search For field, you can search for objects with names that begin with the word east, such as Eastern. To specify how to search for an object, select an option from the drop-down list below the Search For field. The options are:

  6. To search for an object in a specific folder, select an option under Location. The options are:

  7. To specify the type of object to search for, such as reports (including data mart reports), documents, and folders, select the object types you want to search for under Object type. You can include multiple object types in your search.

  8. You can search for objects that were created or modified during a certain time period. Do one of the following:

  9. To search for an object created by a specific user, select one of the following:

  10. To search for an object that contain specific text in its description, type the text in the Description includes field.

  11. By default, shortcut objects are not included in the search results, but their targets are. To include shortcut objects in the search, clear the Resolve shortcuts to target objects check box.

    For example, a project contains the Regional Revenue report, and two shortcuts to the report, one named Regional Sales and one named Regional Revenue Shortcut. If you search for objects named Regional Sales and:

  12. Click Search. The results of your search are displayed.
