About visualizations

A visualization is a visual representation of the data in a Visual Insight analysis, such as a grid or graph. You can add visualizations to an analysis, to provide multiple ways for a user to display and interact with the data from the analysis's dataset. Each visualization is displayed on a separate tab in the analysis. You can click the tab of a visualization to display it. Steps are below to add, duplicate, or delete a visualization, or to change the type of visualization that is used to display data.

You can add the following visualizations to an analysis:

To add a new visualization to an analysis

Prerequisites

  1. Click the name of the analysis to run it.

  2. Click the Add Visualization icon Add Visualization icon, then select the visualization you want to add, as follows:

  3. To add data to the visualization, from the Dataset Objects panel, click and drag them to the Drop Zones panel, as follows:

    Note
    : If the Dataset Objects panel is not displayed, click the Dataset Objects icon in the analysis toolbar. The following areas in the Drop Zones panel are displayed when adding report objects to a Grid visualization; however, different areas may be displayed depending on the type of visualization you are adding to the analysis. For steps to add attributes and metrics to a specific type of visualization, see the appropriate topic for the type of visualization you want to add.

The table below contains a list of common tasks to manage the visualization tabs in an analysis, such as renaming tabs or creating copies of an existing visualization, and steps to perform them.

Change the visualization displayed on a visualization tab

  1. Click the name of the analysis to run it.

  2. Hover the cursor over the tab of the visualization you want to modify, then click the arrow icon on the right. A list of options is displayed.

  3. Point to Change Visualization, then select the visualization you want to use to display the data.

Create a duplicate of a visualization in an analysis

  1. Click the name of the analysis to run it.

  2. Hover the cursor over the tab of the visualization you want to copy, then click the arrow icon on the right. A list of options is displayed.

  3. Select Duplicate. The new visualization is automatically added to the analysis.

Delete a visualization from an analysis

  1. Click the name of the analysis to run it.

  2. Hover the cursor over the tab of the visualization you want to delete, then click the arrow icon on the right. A list of options is displayed.

  3. Select Delete. The visualization is deleted from the analysis.

Rename a visualization tab

  1. Click the name of the analysis to run it.

  2. Hover the cursor over the tab of the visualization you want to rename, then click the arrow icon on the right. A list of options is displayed.

  3. Select Rename, then type a new name for the tab in the field.

  4. Press ENTER. The visualization is renamed.

Move a visualization tab to the left or right in the tab list

  1. Click the name of the analysis to run it.

  2. Hover the cursor over the tab of the visualization you want to delete, then click the arrow icon on the right. A list of options is displayed.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • To move the tab one space to the left, select Move Left.

    • To move the tab one space to the right, select Move Right.
